Motivation can come in many forms and for many reasons, whether it’s studying for an exam, writing a blog post or just getting up in the morning, many people struggle with this (and more) every day.
My current situation means every week I have 4 days off, sometimes in a row, sometimes split up with work and recently, I’ve been finding it hard to motivate myself. I’ve been trying these three things to help my days be productive and keep myself motivated.
Get up to an alarm as if it was a normal working day
I’ve found this to be the most helpful as I don’t lounge in bed for hours after I’ve woken up and my boyfriend has left for work. Don’t get me wrong there’s the usual snooze and scroll through social media, but I’m up and getting myself ready – showering, getting dressed, making the bed etc and that helps to clear my mind. I do try not give myself at least one day a week where it’s a chill day (no dissertation work) and this day is probably the one where I’m in my pj’s until 3pm watching Netflix and snacking.
Think of the end goal & remind yourself why you are doing this
We had a twitter chat over on @Influencer_rt last week and someone mentioned this as an answer and it has stuck with me ever since. It can be hard for me to keep thinking of this as I’m at such a crossroads in my life, my brain cannot focus on anything. But the end goal is I will have a master’s degree from UCL in less than 8 weeks’ time and that, is crazy. I might get easily distracted when I’m writing my dissertation but just saying this to myself can help bring me out of that zone and refocus.
Set small goals and give yourself rewards after
This is just a tip for general life as well as to motivate yourself. Whether the small goal is to just get out of bed before 10am, then set it. Small goals can help refocus the mind and break down a stressful, mentally draining and tiring period of your life into manageable steps. I’ve been recently setting my targets and rewarding myself with siting in the garden in the sun. this has been a big motivation as if anyone knows me, knows that I am a sun worshipper (where has it gone btw, please come back!).
Let me know if you start using any of these tips or what you do to keep yourself motivated.
